More than 30 seniors proudly graduated from Promise Arizona’s English program this Wednesday May 7th 2025, marking a major step toward personal empowerment and community engagement. The program, tailored for adult learners, helps immigrants overcome language barriers and integrate more fully into life in the U.S.
When Angelina Immigrated from Mexico to Phoenix, she could barely speak a few words of English. She quickly realized that not being able to speak the language was a major barrier to opportunity and full integration into her new community in the United States. Although she managed to secure a job, she knew that improving her English was essential.
During her naturalization process successfully supported by Promise Arizona Angelina discovered the organization’s English learning program. She enrolled in the classes, improved her English, and is now fully integrated into her community. Today, she proudly works as a teacher assistant. This evening, she is graduating from the community-based English learning program with pride.
Like Angelina, more than 30 students are graduating this Wednesday evening.
“Tonight, I am very happy because my husband and my kids are here with me, celebrating this achievement,” she says.
Two students from the advanced group, Angelina and Ubaldo, both gave speeches in English to their fellow classmates.
The English learning program is designed to serve all members of the community, regardless of their current English proficiency. This evening’s graduates include beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. The program offers a valuable opportunity for those with limited English to learn and practice the language, both in-person and online.
The classes are led by dedicated and skilled instructors. During the ceremony, the instructors alternate between English and Spanish, ensuring everyone feels included. Their key message to graduates is: keep learning. They encourage students to use social media, radio, and television as tools for continued language development. Graduates at the beginner level are invited to continue their studies in intermediate and advanced courses at Promise Arizona.
To many, Promise Arizona is more than an organization, it is a family. Graduates are reminded they are always welcome to return for support, resources, or connection.
One of the certificate recipients, Ubaldo, is now fluent in English and able to hold conversations. Thanks to the program, he contributes more confidently at work and within his community.
Petra Falcon, Executive Director of Promise Arizona, has devoted her life to community service. For her, this program is vital in strengthening the sense of belonging for Latino and other immigrant communities. It also paves the way for their professional growth and success.
The graduation ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Crozier Catholic Church in southern Phoenix. It was a joyful evening of celebration, connection, and community-building as graduates and their families came together to share in this meaningful achievement.
If you or someone you know is ready to improve their English and connect more deeply with the community, visit Promise Arizona to learn how to enroll or support the program.
