Shadow Rock UCC has been offering sanctuary to people with orders of deportation for almost 3 years. Part of this ministry is walking faithfully with the families after they leave sanctuary and continue to navigate the broken immigration system.
We will be holding a prayer vigil on Tuesday, April 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. We hold this vigil to support and pray for our friend, neighbor and first sanctuary guest, Marco. Marco has a check-in at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office on Wednesday, April 12th, and we stand in hope and solidarity for a positive outcome.
Marco has been living and working in the United States for 18 years. He has a family, no criminal record, and is a taxpayer. He has long-term employment with the same employer and his work permit has been renewed many times. For us at Shadow Rock, Marco is not just any unfortunate undocumented person caught in a broken and unjust system. He is the first human being God brought to Shadow Rock's doorstep which created a crises of faith and conscience within our fellowship. When we were faced with Marco and his circumstances we had to ask ourselves what the most faithful response would be. Offering him sanctuary almost three years ago was the answer, and we have continued to strive to be faithful to him.
We invite you to the prayer vigil to show your support for Marco and his family, and to keep our community close as we await Wednesday's outcome at ICE.
On Wednesday, April 12th, we will gather in solidarity for Marco at the ICE office (2035 N. Central Ave) at 11:00 AM for prayer and accompanying Marco to the front door for his check in appointment. Again, we surround him with our prayers and support hoping he will be released by ICE officials and allowed to rejoin his family.
